Cone Filter Air Temps Under The Hood

Just some FYI for the Coneheads out there with cone filters in the engine bay with no cold air ducting.

I captured the cone air temps with a Fluke 52II using K probes and also on the RTEK2.0 at the same time.

Kinda warm, eh? The Lower temp figure on the Fluke is the outside air temp OAT.

The intercooler outlet air temp is shown on the RTEK2.0.

The RTEK uses the stock air temp probes and they are slower to respond than the Fluke. I had to wait a few for the RTEK to catch up with the Fluke.

Anyway, it's food for thought if you have but a cone filter in the engine bay all alone by itself with no cold air ducting to it etc.

Car be a turboii driven moderatly around the hood i.e. thirty to forty mph fully warmed up.

That's warm. Thanks for posting that, great information to have.

Do you have a headlight with a duct? I'd really be interested to see if those temps change at all. I'm sure not much, if anything.

It would be neat to see different stages. Stock box, cone filter, headlight duct, etc. etc.

I'll do a stock this week. I've one car with the stock airfilter assy

The jpgs are of a car with only a cone and no ducting. In fact I did forget to reinstall the scoop over the fan shroud. Ooops. There won't be much of a change though. Been there before, done that.
