Condensation in trunk????
Hey Everyone,
Recently I have noticed a sufficent amount of condensation buildup in the trunk, enough that when I open the trunk, the drops roll down and is enough to get the trunk mat wet. Anyone got any thoughts on this.
Car is a 88 vert, and all the trunk seals work properly as nothing leaked this summer during horrible rain.
Car is left outside and it has rained on and off for the past couple of days and we have abnormal 50 degree weather in the middle of winter in New York.
Anyone with thoughts or ideas, as this completely baffels me.
Regards,
- Anil Singh

no, that is not normal. Are you parking on a flat area, or with the trunk uphill???
I'd say between now and last summer, your trunk seal is bad. Do you have water under the carpet or the jack or at the bottom of the bin next to the rear bumper???

While the seals may look like they are sealing, they often don't. Take a strip of paper, 1" wide and 8-12" long and lay it on the seal and close the trunk, then pull on the paper. If the paper sticks, the seal is doing it's job at that point. Do this around the entire perimeter ot the seal. If you find a spot where the paper pulls out easily an adjustment will need to be made.
Moiture doesn't just appear in the trunk unless there is a source of either water or air flow, the trunk should have neither. If you have been driving in the rain, get under the car and check for rust holes in the trunk area and missing body plugs.

I also have this problem with my 88. It appears that water is getting in through the roof seams at the rear and also around the bottom of the rear window gasket. My top is in pretty decent shape which wasent an imediate indicator. Just hapened to notice it during a rain storm at night. It ends up in the trunk and behind the seats depending which way the car is pitched. Try and use some seam sealer on the stitching of the roof. It can be purchased from any sporting goods store. Next I would definitly look at the trunk seal again. Like icemark said. It could have failed since last summer. Good Luck!

Trunk Condensation
Wow,
This has been pretty informative. Thanks for all the info on this, I do appreciate it. I am going to be ordering new seals from Victoria british next month to replace all my existing door and targa seals and anywhere else that needs to get changed. I guess that I will have to add in a new trunk seal on the list.
The car has been parked in the same area that its always parked and that is in front of the garage which is a relatively flat paved concrete area.
I have checked the area where the jack is and felt the carpeting to see if it was wet, and its dry. Its just that when I open the trunk, then I notice the condensation. I have been wiping it up though whenever I go heat the car up, I always check the trunk now.
I will try that paper thing and see what outcome I get with it. And for the seam sealer from a sporting goods store, well I work in New York's Finest Sporting Goods store so that I will pick up tommorow when I go back to work and give it a whack when the weather gets a little warmer.
As for now I am going to move it into the garage and see if this still happens.
Thanks again for all the helpful info......
