Computerizeing the A/C logicon

Ok, so i'm about to install a carputer, the screen will go from the bottom of the ash tray to the bottom of the A/C vents. It will of course replace my radio.
SO the question is, can I get hardware/software to controll my A/C with my computer? Has it been done? Is there a writeup on it somewhere? if not I'm just going to relocate my A/C controlls to the side of the console.
Thanks

I'm rather curious and I know it's been dead for awhile now, but has anyone done this? Or are they even in business still? The website still works so anyone know?

the way you describe the size and positioning of the screen, it sounds to me like a widescreen LCD tilted sideways....... you only really need a screen about 7in which will get rid of the entire radio assembly and lets you keep your logicon.

i dont like it anyway. to each his own tho

well i would like to do the same. I am going to be updating the entire interior of the car with a custom dash, door panels and everything else and dont want an old *** looking logicon to mess it up either.

I don't know if he still sells him or if the website is still in use--at least for the guys in the states. But he did something really nice for everyone, he gave a pdf schematic and a parts list. After doing some quick searching you can get a kit to make the board for a little bit of $ (<100) depending on what you order. And the component list could probably be brought into any radio shack and taken care of. The software looks to be open source too, so adjusting it to fit your car wouldn't seem that hard (so long as you know VB). What might be nice is if some features could be re-adjusted to provide a more proportionate fan speed. From what I read there's only 4 speeds available, which is fine at the moment, but for those that want to go above and beyond might want to try and tackle that... Might need to use a variable resistor/relay--hmmm. Time to talk to electrical engineers.

i was planning on buying one but decided against it, i don't always run my carpc so that would make adjusting things difficult.

Just out of curiosity what's your setup? I ask because I have a feeling you're running a windows based platform with addtional programs running within it. I'm just wondering because if I do get a carputer I wouldn't want to have to go through a loading time for the OS and then on top of it for the Programs in it. I'm thinking perhaps PDA style where there's almost nill load time, and then just wire it to intiate on start up. Or are you saying you shut down the carputer during sporty driving to convserve energy consumed from the alternator?

You would use a potentiometer, this would give you the ability to have many different fan speeds. Kind of like a dimmer switch for lights in your house.

I thought reted was back for a second.......saw the 2-6 date, but neglected to view the 08.

I Kinda miss his extensive knowledge, smeared with harsh and belittling condescension.

What has ted been up to? Oh....computer controlled a/c is kinda badass i guess.
