Computer Fans in Storage Bin Lids???
Ok in each of my storage bins of my 90 GXL, i have an amp, I have been having probs with keeping them cool, so i decided to put a computer fan in the lid of each of my storage bins, i bought some of the little 99 cent case fans with the blue LED lights on them off of ebay, this works great, i guess it blows enought cool air in to keep them from over heating,or at least it curculated the air, i dont have any pics right now but i will post some tomarrow of them during daytime and some of the really cool ones at night, those little light really light up the car, look GREAT...and i was wondering if anyone else has done this and has any pics so i can compare mine to your.
P.S...if anyone wants to know how to do this all u do is, buy the fans, it has a red-power, black-Ground and yellow witch u dont need, and put them on your amp in the remote spot and ground spot really easy, plus a little hole cutting
Post some pics and tell me what u think, and ill show the pics tomarrow.

get the ThermalTake Smartfan II, its an 80MM that blows almost 80CFM of air, like 75CFM, their loud, but with a stereo you wont hear them at all. there is one 120MM fan called the tornado that pushes over 100CFM of air. www.coolerguys.com sells everything you would need.

FYI
Code:

Code:

If the fans are blowing into the bin, is there anywhere for the air to get out? Conversely, if the fans are sucking from the bin, is there anywhere for the air to get in? Simply putting a fan in is only half the job. If the air can't pass in/out of the bin, the fans will no nothing.

I need to get some pics but one of the first things I did was fiberglass a piece to go behind the driver's side rear strut tower. I mounted my amp behind that. The piece was covered with carpet to match the rest and it looks like it belongs there from the factory. I used two cooling fans on the side that is near the front, and near the rear of the car I put a vent in. You would have to look pretty close to notice it because everything is black. And it looks great, and works perfectly. I wanted to keep my bins free....

i was thinking about this last night actually, i think you could make the fans pushing air into the boxes with some small holes on the lid, you could probably make them small enough not to be noticed from a distance but then there is still the problem of getting hot air out, maybe cut a few holes without a fan that way the cooler air should push the hot air out the top...just some thoughts.

I did something similar with my setup. Me at Circuit City's "high end" mobile audio dept....."Do you have any 12 volt muffin fans?" Reply from salesperson with funny look..."Uhhh, no we don't". Before leaving I remembered to check the computer department and lo and behold....a nice selection of 12 volt fans. I'm at work so I don't have any specs. but for around $19 I found a unit designed to cool internal hard drives. Now get this. It comes with an aluminum heat sink which is meant to wrap around the drive which I won't need. But it has two small muffin fans which are controlled by two thermo switches and(the sweet part) also has an LED temperature indicator which I intend to mount somewhere in the center console. I drilled two holes in the storage bin-one down low to pull in "cold" air and the other up high to push out the heat. Its almost all rigged up but not wired yet. I'll let ya'll know how it works out. But for $19 bucks its gotta be good start. If the fans don't push enough I'll just get another one and double the airflow.
