compression test attempt

So,

I'm pretty sure that my engine has a stuck apex seal. It starts up and drives, crappy, but still goes none the less...

I did the poor mans comp test first a couple of weeks ago. I felt three nice puffs on the front, one one the rear with two mild puffs. I then hooked up a real comp tester to it just now and I got nothing. no reading at all. then I went back to the poor mans test and felt the same as before. I'm going to rebuild regardless but i'm trying to estimate the amount of possible damage and explanation for this issue.

Does anyone have any input or advice?

No reading on either the front or rear rotor?? If that's the case, something obviously isn't right with the compression tester.

the way i test engines in the junk yard is take off the exhaust manifold and then rotate it around and feel the apexes. this can be done with the engine in the car. you can also feel on the housing surface and if you threw a seal it will likely be gouged near the xhaust port. no margin for error there. just don't rotate the engine with your finger in there

just take off your 5th/6th ports if it's a N/A and unbolt the manifold/cats, which you'll have to do on a rebuild anyway.

otherwise i would just go with rotaryresurrection.com how-to on compression if you can turn it over.

sounds like either the compression tester is messed up or the connects are not fully seated. be sure the schrader valve is out for the pressure release also.
