how much should a compression test cost? the mazda dealer offered $136

doesnt it take like 10 minutes?

 

They charge a lot for good reason.

One, the Mazda compression tester is a SHITLOAD of money. It probably won't be used more then a handful a times, most people don't come into dealerships asking for compression tests.

Two, it takes the time for the tech to do the job. If you have PS and AC, it is considerably harder to access the spark plugs, etc..and they generally round up to the hour.

 

Do it yourself, a tester is bout 20 bucks and the procedure is easy, rotaryressurection.com

 

I paid $72.00 at a dealership in NC. last October. They have a special compression tester though. Over $100.00 is too much. I've been quoted prices of $100.00 by rotary specialists.

where would be the best place to get a compression tester? I feel I need to do this and am kinda lost on the first step... lol
