Cold weather, cracked door lock covers?

Hey guys,

I've had both my driver's side and passenger side door lock dust covers break on my out of nowhere and jam up inside my locks! Super irritating. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to fix it. Tomorrow morning I guess I'll be climbing in through my hatch. lol.

If I recall, most FC locks have plastic dust covers. I think this was because quite a few of them were illuminated from the factory. When they broke and jammed in my '90 GTU, I disassembled the lock cylinders and removed all the broken plastic, then I cut replacements out of thin sheet aluminum stock I had for some home improvement project. This held up for a number of years.

Yeah, You have to pull the door handles out and disassemble the lock. Be careful when you take it apart and don't lose track of any parts. When you get into the cylinder itself be very careful not to let any of the little things(can't remeber what they're called) fall out, or let the return springs fall out. It's pretty easy, you just have to remember how it all goes together.
