I drive a 1987 RX-7 GXL w/ a 13B NA street port. My engine was rebuilt about 5k ago by RX7 Specialties, and has purred like a kitten until the winter season struck.

The problem I'm having is slight popping when I start the car cold. The popping which I assume is backfire subsides as soon as the car reaches regular idle (750 +/- 50 RPM).

I was just wondering if this could possibly be a spark plug problem or just purely timing? I haven't pulled the plugs out yet...was planning on doing a plug and plug wire upgrade in the spring anyway.

Also...I have never been able to get more than 12gal in any particular fill up. All of the specs sheets that I have seen state that the car has a 16.6 gal fuel tank. I'm wondering if the 16.6gal tank was an option and the 12gal tank came stock with the car....any ideas??

Drive until you run out of gas, then go fill it up. You will put in more than 12 gallons.

yeah, then he'll deal with a different problem from running empty, like sediments getting into the filter and fuel lines
