cold air intake (how do you make it)

Hello,

Yes newbee here! I have seen some pics of a cold air intake, where the air filter is located just behind where the fog light is. My question is how do you make it? Is it just parts you can get at the local auto parts store or do you have to make it your self? Also how much cutting is involved and do you have to change the air flow meter?

If there is a write up about it or some thing can you link me to it please.

thanks

Theres a few write ups on it, the search button is pretty useful... you can access a lot of old threads, the only draw back is some of the pictures dont work anymore.

For the CAI, it depends if your a T2 or N/A ... For N/A I just used a prelude CAI kit and customed is from there. you need to cut a little bit of the frame and depending if you have a s4 or s5, you may need an adapter for the AFM (If you have a s4)... Im sure im leaving out details, just search up a write up, they explain the steps pretty well.

Ok I will try to do a search. I have an s5 N/A and I would like to get a little more power out of it with out spending a lot of money. And is this the best intake set up or is there a better way to do it?

A simple CAI is really the only way to make a 'more productive than stock' intake. For example, it's been proven that just removing the stock airbox and sticking a cone filter on the end of the AFM will actually reduce performance. A drop-in (stock air-box) K&N filter might give you a little more performace than the 'stock' paper filter, like 2whp.

To do a proper CAI you've got to cut a hole behind the pass. side headlight and route some piping through this and out of the engine bay (away from the heat).

The reference to the "Prelude CAI" is simply because it's been discovered that the Prelude CAI piping kit, commonly found on ebay (for like $25 bucks) will give you all the piping you need to do the mod.

But yeah, if you haven't already done it, search for "CAI" or "Prelude CAI". This'll probably point you in the right direction.

You can't...unless you're willing to cut metal.

Yup on the Honda Prelude cold-air intake.

I've never done the mod, but honestly, go the Ebay and type in 'Prelude intake' to get an indication of what the piping looks like. This is a VERY straight forward mod, with a simple procedure and goal. I would search for you, but I kind of don't feel like it, lol.

more air in= more air out. have you done anything to your exhaust?? do you have emmision testing? if not hollow those cats out to get it to breathe a little better.

fiiiiine...

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...elude+CAI+pics

The 7th post down has some decent pics of dDub's CAI setup. As you can see he just cut a hole big enough for the piping, stuffed the piping down the hole and (what you can't see) is the filter on the end, but you get the idea.

Thanks for the link that will help.

umm, my exhaust is pretty much stock if not worse, lol. it has a fairly new cat on it but it still has one precat that the car originally came with.

92-96 is what works to answer 90FC's question.

Well... I was lucky to find some aluminum intake pipe for $10.00, cut it in two sections. remove the winshield washer reservoir thank from underneath the fender, cut a hole on top, stuck the pipe and a K&N filter in there. I don't think it's to bad.

A custom cold air intake using 92-96 piping with a quality filter or a properly build cold air box using a quality filter such as K&N, HKS, Apexi, Bonez, and so on.

Heh, my car already has a hole cut into the area under where the stock airbox used to be... and it's got a cylinder-shaped K&N filter on the AFM and on the air pump intake...

I was thinking of getting some of that duct hosing they use for fresh air intakes at various tuners (RE Amemiya for example) and feeding it through the foglight port (I've got no foglights) and up through the hole... but I guess using piping and moving the filter entirely would be better.
