Cold Air Intake?
Hey guys and girls. I was wondering how much a cold air intake would cost, and how much work is involved in installing it? Thanks

well, mine costed me about $30 which includes filter, silicon adapters, various clamps and hoses, and a check valve....the installation is very simple...i'm sure there's a write-up in here somewhere if you do a search...

I suppose to "make" a cold air intake? And why not have one in the winter? Since it is a COLD air intake, and the air is COLD in winter, whats the problem?

it's for when the air enters the car. It almost immedietly gets hot in the engine bay. But yeah for winter it wouldn't do much, i dont know where the hell you are from, but it's summer here! And its used for the summer silly

sorry 'bout that:
i realized which part you were talking about building, after i read the message over again. anyway, yes its summer, and its hot and its only the beginning so that would help. i would like to know what materials to make it out of. i figure a plastic or cardboard would work, with a foam on the inside. i figure theres no point in using a metal (such as aluminum) because that will just get hot from the heat anyway, defeating the purpose. let me know what you think.

My favorite is the one from www.mariahmotorsports.com It bolts right in, it looks oem, it can be painted, etc...
Yes you can make one for dirt cheap yourself, but most "homemade" ones look like a POS.

i made my own with flexible duct work and sheet metal, the most expensive part was the bypass valve, i hooked mine up to the brake vents that are in the front fasica one each side ran it to a y pipe with a temp gauge sender in it(the gauge is on the a pillar, and ran it to a cone filter, to the massair. looks nice, at 60mph the air temp is a chilly 38 degrees on a 78 degree day total cost was about 80 dollars and it took the good part of a day.

You can get the border headlight cover from corksport. Just buy a filter(I prefer the APEX over any other brand and either make an adaptor or buy one. Thats all there is to it. It will take you 15mins to install maybe. For a cold-air box, just get some cardboard, some aluminum sheeting, some aluminum tape, and some foam to seal the box with the hood. Cut the cardboard to the shape you want the box to be. Trace the cardboard on the aluminum. You know where this is going. You will soon realize that an intake is not a big deal.

Ryde _Or_Die likes the homemade POS ones
I think they'll stamp it for $50. That includes the carbon reinforcement and use of the "2 ton" press.
Note the "replacement headlight cover" intakes never do look as good as OEM.
