I'm no mod expert, but that doesn't look like it's getting any cold air at all. Also, I'm not sure about how much it affects performance, but your AFM sidways like that will throw off your ECU's readings alittle bit. It should be mounted horizontally, so that gravity wont affect the flapper. The way it's setup in the picture, the air coming through your AFM has to push the flapper up, against gravity. Plus there's a spring trying to return it to closed also.

A plain old cone filter doesn't mean cold air intake. You have to make sure it's getting cold air. Build a box around it and have a nice tube come up from below the car into the box. That way you will actually be getting colder air from outside the car rather than hot air from under the hood.

The Air Flow Meter (AFM) tells the computer how much air is going into the intake tube. It has a flap door inside it. If its positioned sideways, the flap door might not open, or always be open, and will cause poor performance and mileage.

dDubs is a good example. My idea is similar except the filter is right by the AFM, but there is a tube coming up like his into the box that you build around the filter.

im not done yet, my mass air flow sensor doesnt even work, that was just a test fitting, im either going to get the scooped headlight cover, or out the filter under the car like most choose to do, i have a 90 degree bent pipe already so i just need to relocate the washer fluid bottle and get some cutting device

you know some people believe putting the filter behind the radiator is a good simple spot for maximizing emissions, fuel economy, and performance?

at speed, you get reasonably cold air good for performance
in traffic, you get hot air, good for economy and emissions

what do you think about them apples?

I still prefer always using cold air, but I can definitely see the advantage of hot air in traffic with gas prices where they are, seeing how much fuel I pull out with hot intake temps to keep a decent AFR in the fuel correction map.

wait...what? I always under the impression that hot air is terrible for the engine. The colder the air, the more efficient and knock resistant the engine runs, right?
