cold air box

Has anyone in here made one? I'm sure some have, but I was wondering if anyone had pictures. I bought some supplies because I was bored and had a $20 gift card for Home Depot. I got three sheet of plexi, some angle aluminum, and super glue. Other than the plexi melting, does any one have any contradictions to my plan? If it works when I finish it then I'll post some pics. I'm thinking I may throw a neon light in there somewhere to spice it up a spic.

Wouldn't the plexi heatsoak?

But yes, what's the function of the neon for? the only reason I could fathom a neon under the hood would be white one on the underside of the hood that has a switch. The function would be for working on the car in the dark. It would be better then a small light bulb that's usually under the hood.

K&N does not have a 'cold air box' for FC's. Why would they.

I have one I bought from a fellow forum member, but haven't installed it yet. If I can find a link to his original thread, I'll post it so you can see how it is made.

i think mariah motorsports makes one, but its nothing you cant make yourself, it just looks really nice and has rubber edge surround iirc.. but it was way too much for what it was. THROW A NEON IN, you wont regret it.

Mariah motorsports one is like $125 I think. They have a few packages with filters included, but they are pricey.

for the cost of the supplies its almost worth paying for the premade ones.

ive been thinking for a while that the OEM air box from a 98-2004 mustang could house a cone filter. i keep forgetting to measure my mustang box. if it works you can easily get one at a junk yard for cheap and cut a couple holes in it to funnel some cold air from outside the engine bay into it.

I am making mine with rivets and aluminum. Superglue? Hmm, I wouldn't suggest that route, nor the neons. They look lame, and don't accomplish much.

Get a cheap rivet gun, some metal sheers, and some aluminum and fab yourself a box.

Good luck!

So you got the vented light cover but put a top on the air box?

That is not a pic from my car.

I do not have mine installed yet, but when I do there will be a duct drawing fresh air in front the foglight area of the bumper cover.

PS- the vented headlight cover does nothing.

Get the filter out of the engine bay. Cut a 3 1/2" hole and take it ino the brake duct area.

having the filter exposed to the elements 24/7 is not a good idea ^^ it may bring the best air flow but it will ruin the filter quicker and possibly suck in moisture.

it just dawned on me that you can use the big box under the dash for the A/C. it is the perfect size, has holes already, and is lined with styrofoam so it's insulated and made for keeping cold in and heat out. Just find an extra one at a junk yard.
