Cold Air Box

I'm kind of new with cars and I was wondering what exactly a cold air box does. Thanks in advance.

tries to keep hot air out from entering the intake tube/filter. basically prevents hot intake charges... preventing hot air from entering the intake which in then produces more hp and better performance...

The cooler the air going into your motor, the denser it is and the more oxygen it carries - more bang for your buck.
