Coilovers please
Coilovers please
Need coilovers for my 90 FC.. i know this is prolly in the wrong section but i dont have enough post to do the parts section. So if anyone has coilovers for a fc let me know i would really like to buy them.
there is alot of coilovers out there brah, try your local section. Or support some of your local tuning shops, they can help you. And are you hoping someone will just give some to you cheap? Got to be more specific about what type of coilover system you want.

Used or cheapie coilovers may actually handle worse than what is currently on your car. Most new parts also have a lifetime warranty, while used do not.
Coilovers should be installed and tuned by a professional. I recommend Ground Control or Mazda competition. You can contact them for recommendations on dampers and spring rates to match your particular application.

If you just want something that has good street/autocross performance and you can bolt on yourself without needing a professional, then a better choice is to simply get some nice replacement dampers and springs. Common struts are Tokico "blue" for non-adjustables, Tokico Illumina adjustables for cars with no stereo system, or KYB AGX adjustables for cars with or without a stereo system. Tire Rack usually has good pricing on dampers. See Mazdatrix for street/strip springs:

Don't forget to also replace your worn-out mounts and bushings. Your new suspension parts will quickly become old suspension parts if you install them on worn-out or torn bushings.

Tokico Illumina adjustables for cars with no stereo system
Care to explain relationship of struts/shocks to stereo system? I'm assuming you're relating hard ride to roac shock to the electronics. But I would guess adjustables set at the softest setting wouldn't be much differeent than blues by themselves.
But I actually am interested in what experience drove that observation.

I'm going to let this thread live solely because it's sparked some discussion about the many suspension options available. SideWaysFc3s, if you know this is NOT the place to post Ads, don't do it.
The Illumina rear dampers have the adjusting **** on the top. Therefore, the only way to change the setting on the rear Illuminas is to remove the rear speaker grille and speaker. This is not a problem if you have it removed anyway, as would a race car. However, it's not such a great idea if you intend to keep the speakers in place. The KYB AGX rear dampers have the adjusting **** on the side, which works great if you don't want to bother removing your speakers every time you adjust your dampers. The advantage of the Illuminas is that if you have the speakers removed anyway, then you can just pop your rear hatch to adjust them as opposed to bending down inside your wheel well like you must with the AGX dampers.
If you click on the video in this link, it will show one damper with a side-mounted **** and one damper with a top-mounted screwdriver slot. For the RX-7, the rear Illuminas have the top-mounted screwdriver slot, while the rear AGXs have the side-mounted ****. Both of them have the top-mounted screwdriver slot for the fronts.

I went from Illuminas to AGXs thinking that with the AGXs I could reach around my tire and change them while on the car but alas, I couldn't reach so I had to jack the car up every time. Waaaay more troublesome than taking out the speakers in the rear for the Illuminas.

Tokico adjustment extenders
http://www.turninconcepts.com/produc...roducts_id=543
Those extenders only fit the HTS and D-Spec series dampers which are not currently made for the FC RX-7. So until Tokico makes those dampers for our cars or until somebody engineers similar extenders for the Illumina series, yes you need to remove your speakers to adjust the Illuminas. (Or the equivalent interior parts for the convertible)
I can reach the adjusting **** just fine. I can't see it, but I can certainly reach it. Do you have really short arms or some type of disability? I could see where people with back problems wouldn't want to bend down to adjust the rears.
Wow, apparently.

if you're on a budget I "strongly" suggest you to just get stock replacement and be done with it.
cuz most if not all low price so called "coilovers" are totally garbage = performs a LOT worst than even stock replacements.
just my 0.02.

+1 I almost bought godspeed's on ebay...very glad I got the teins and illuminas instead.
So what's the problem with pulling the the speaker covers to make the adjustment? I'm sure if the person still has the stereo they are not going to be making adjustments that often that this will be an issue. If they were in competition & needing to make adjustments regularly I would think there would be no stereo there anyways.

Trust me I wasn't saying one was better then the other.

My illuminas adjust under the speakers. I used to turn them down for street comfort and up for track use but then I became lazy and they have been at the same setting for the last 3 years.
