why everybody just go "straight" to coilovers when 90% of them don't even know how to properly use/adjust it.

Also, be clear about what your end use will be. If you want maximum handling you will need to spend more $ versus being low or updating old suspension parts. Coilovers may not perform any better than stock suspension.

There are a lot of posts associated with a car of this vintage and the best thing in these forums is to use the "search" function to see the hundreds of people that asked exactly the same question.

K-sport.. don't get em.. only if you plan on rebuilding everything with it... i got em for my Corolla... - __ -^ only lasted for about a year and half. If you got money i would go with GPmoto custom CO.

i have stance GR+ pros, they are very aggressive. good for drift, not overly stiff but very solid and predictable with the breakaway, might not be good for daily driving unless the roads are nice where you are. still havent found a setup i like for autox, as each click on the damper makes a large difference, so i have to learn to start playing with spring preload. i rode in an fc with a adjustible koni shock spring combo and i am wondering if i shoulda got those for daily driving, very well valved and comfy, though it might not be aggressive enough for track style events, but enough for random spirited turns on the streets/backroads.
but if you are looking at improving suspension, not just looks, tires first. the gain in performance with coilovers was minor compared to the difference with good 180/200 treadwear tires.

ground control make a nice set but for a few bucks more you can get fully adjustable suspension from godspeed for like 650 to 750

been running poweredbymax coils for 30,000 miles now. don't run any sway bars all the way around since it caused snap oversteer and understeer with the front swaybar. then again, i was running polyurethane bushings on the end links and racing beat sway bars. I love this setup. most complain that they are too stiff, but I daily my car and drift it hard. really a great setup, and is even better because they have replacement new dampeners for $100 each. located right next to my house, and the main mechanic guy there is a Fc head. $1,000 out the door for their old style coils. I see they have a new Pro version, which are softer but they're $1,500 and don't know if they have some for the FC.

10 levels of dampening. full tap design for extra lowness. dont go as low as DG5's, but i'll post up some pics of my car sometime so you can get a feel for the ride height availability.

don't go cheap and ever buy megans or some ground controls. i'd recommend PBM's. Stance GR's, or some Zeals...

and honestly i've never driven on godspeed coilovers, but it's pretty much on the megan racing level. don't go cheap on your suspension, or you'll end up buying twice.

now i'm running:
PBM coils
battle version lateral toe links
solid subframe bushings
solid rear diff mounts
pinion snubber
competition front diff mount
steering angle knuckle mod
mazdatrix steering angle outer tie rods
polyurethane front control arm bushings
mazdatrix main camber adjuster
awr individual camber adjusters
racingbeat DTSS eliminators

this has proven to be a responsive and consistent/predictable setup and I truly love it. the only addition i'd like is a solid front differential mount, which is available in the group buy section.

when i first started, i had stock suspension, and i eventually upgraded to kyb agx's with racing beat springs... this was an alright setup for a sporty driving style, but not for anything competitive. then i ended up getting coilovers to suit my needs.... wasting money on the kyb agx's and racing beat springs..

if you know what you need(competitive) and how to use it properly, you should get some good coilovers to begin with.

For my 8, I went from stock which is Tokico, straight to HiperMax III, then when it broke (thx to NYC garbage roads, snap my **** in 1/2), I went straight up to Ohlins. Not wasting any money.

my point is that most people have "zero idea" of what to do with coilover, the term "coilover" is like "OMFG 2F2F Style y0!"

then they just go for the cheapest, no idea how to install and tune it properly, and wonder why their ride turns from normal to crap.

Tein, K-sport, Godspeed, D2, Megan, Yellows, I know I'm missing a few. But there all the same ****. Same warehouse, same place, different color. There are ALOT of threads with this... If your spending under 1k for coilovers there garbage... If you wanna baller **** that works.

PBM, Zeals, HKS, JIC, Stance, Ohlins. If there built in house then it's good! Because most of the companys I named which aren't cheap do R&D on there own stuff.

it is true that the sub 1k coilovers tend to be bad. like really bad. the problem with coilovers is that you dont get specs on the dampers, so people dont tend to understand why meagan/ground control/godspeed "coilovers" are so bad. tein flexes tend to be valved very well, but i havent seen a set on an FC even though i know they make them. for drift im sure the super drifts are good, as all the dampening adjustable teins have given good results, though i havent seen one on an FC, the guy who rebuilt my motor had HKS hipermaxes, and those dampers were amazing. and my friend with an s2k has hipermaxes and once again, they are amazing. though they are pricey. good luck with your suspension searching.

When 1/2 a dozen of the Mazda dealer "tech" does not even know how to fix a car. yeah, worked on those for a whiiiiiile huh ...

You asked a question that could be found with just a 4 second search.

the worst is yes you worked on those for a whiiiiiile but you still don't have the simplest common sense ----------------------- you get what you paid for .

Good luck with your "coilover" hunt.

Haven't used a coil over combo yet that beats Koni's 3012. BROAD custom spring rate cap, completely customizable; size, travel, droop limiting. External double adjustably.... end of discussion
