Code 3 in ECU - NE and G check out fine???

I have a code 3 stored in my ECU even after resetting it, and its been there for over a year or more. Car runs great and seems to have no performance problems at all.

I have checked the CAS NE and G pickups for the proper resistance at the CAS wire connector and they are within spec. I have not checked the continuity in the wiring from the CAS connector to the ECU yet, but I can't imagine why it would be damaged. Everything is stock on the car and it has never been torn apart in any way that I can think of to cause wiring to be damaged.

Couple of questions before I tear into the wiring. What does the NE and G stand for? I cannot find a reference to what NE means and I originally thought G meant ground...but I don't think that is correct.

Another question.....if the ECU was not getting a G signal (which is what the code 3 indicates), shouldn't that cause either the leading or trailing coil to not fire? Upon checking the plug wires coming off of the coil with a timing light.....I have spark at all of them. T2 seems to make the timing light flash erratically, kind of like double the speed of all the other plug wires and it does not make the timing light match up with the marks on the pulley. Should it? I'm thinking I read somewhere that this might be normal for T2 not to match up with the pulley marks, but now I'm not positive.

Anyway.....I'm kind of stumped as to why the car would seem to be running so well with a code as serious as this stored in the ECU.

What do I do to troubleshoot this further if the wiring checks out to be OK. Does that mean it is something fried in the ECU?
