Clutch Wear Patterns?

So Blaen99 and I are out swapping transmissions, and we're replacing his clutch and resurfacing his flywheel.

His clutch worries us though, here's some pics:

So it just looks funky.

We think it's either a Mazdatrix "race" clutch, but it says Exedy on it.

Is this clutch good?

Still looks dirveable; but then again, I drive until the clutch is destroyed and spins around in pieces...

what's funky looking about that disc? the fibers in the clutch material? it looks fine to me, there seems to be plenty of lining left.

Insanely overbudget on the car and I need to get it running ASAP. I can re-do it the right way in a few months when I have more disposable income, but I'm in the middle of moving right now, so having the car bite into my moving budget is not something I can afford much more of.

Additionally, just had a very experienced mechanic look at it, and he said it was very close to new/had extremely little wear.

the criss crossing marks are original from the factory, that disk looks to be in good shape

Thank you man. We were beating our heads out on how it could have even gotten wearing patterns like that.

The "odd" looking wear pattern is just the high spots wearing off the new disc. I agree with the mechanic, the clutch disc looks to be fairly new.

FYI those are not high spots

That is carbon fiber inlayed in the friction material.
It helps hold the material together and also for saftey.
If it decided to crack it wont fly apart as easily.

Measure the distance from the disc surface to the rivets.
you should have about 2-3 mm min if it's about there replace it.
It looks like you could use a new one.
Just replace the disc.
You can find one for about 60-80
I would go with stock form the dealer.
they one of the best.
OEM Pressure plate
OEM Disc

I stand corrected, I'll add that to the memory bank.

It has roughly 3.2mm of disc surface to the rivets based on my attempt at measuring it. (1/8th of an inch almost exactly, which Google tells me is 3.175mm ;P)

Yeah dude, we should be able to reuse it. Let's just make sure the surface is clean and has no grime or oil or anything on it.

Cleaning the clutch slowly as I have time. Already used a can and a half of brake cleaner on it.
