which clutch for turbo +270 hp
hi guys,
i need to know what clutch i should order for my 1987 turbo II (s4) with approx 270hp. the old starts slipping. i saw some on ebay but dont know those brands. I use the fc for street and sometimes circuit. Would be nice to find a good price quality clutch.
thanx for any help.

I have had good experience with the ACT 6 pucks.
Research the torque ratings for the desired stage.
What ever you do....do not buy one of those xtd pieces of ****.
I got 5,800 miles out of mine.

An ACT heavy duty pressure plate and a modified organic disk will give you the closest to stock feel. It's rated at 330 ft. lbs., which should be more than you're making. http://www.advancedclutch.com/produc...d_id=6579#6579
Or there's the SPEC stage 1, which is essentially the same thing. Upgraded PP & modified organic disk. Rated at 330 ft. lbs. too. It costs about $150 less, and so far has worked well in my car. I've got about 9000 miles on it.

I have 270 rwhp and have an ACT xtreme pressure plate with a performance street disc and love it.
You could definitely drop down to an HD pressure plate and a modified disc and save a bit of money. I bought what I did so it would support more hp in the future and the pedal is only a bit stiffer.
I would not go 6-puck, discs work just fine.

2 issues:
1) 6 puck clutches are designed to grip, they are not designed to last. I have personally worn them out pretty quickly, and have seen other cars (not Rx-7) have that problem. They're not rated for "street use" and what that means in practical terms is that you can't expect much life, even if you're not racing. The chatter is annoying but you get used it, although parallel parking sucks.
Note that sprung discs have more life and less chatter than unsprung discs.
2) some have broken pivot ***** with xtreme pressure plates
Don't buy "more" clutch than you need.
I have an ACT sprung 6 puck with heavy duty pressure plate, but I have a 400+rwhp setup.

not to steal the thread away but, next year, I am aiming for 300-350 rwhp and I am going to drift, autox, and track. Is this clutch kit from ACT good Z65-HDG6,
HD pressure plate with a 6 puck sprung
I know its rated for 400+ tq but it can handle the clutch kicking abuse right?

I have a HKS twin plate sprung and it is by far the best money I have spend. Feels very easy to drive almost stock feel. I defiently recomend it for any turbo FC3S ...no matter what the horsepower rating. I thought it was gonna be overkill, but boy was I wrong .....even drive it in traffic in the 405 without hesitation.

If there won't be any significant drag racing involved I would actually use a stock disc and an upgraded PP. I say that as someone who has run 5 different clutches among a turbo FC, a non turbo FC, and an FD. The biggest concern is the life of the parts and the ease of low speed parking maneuvers.

what are everyone's opinions on copper clutches?? I'm looking to make about 330whp or a little more. i have the ACT street/strip with heavy duty pp and the setup has bout 20k on it. I figured it would be ideal to switch out the disk while the tranny is still out of the car.

I am using an exedy 10803A organic clutch kit and FD flywheel. According to the literature it is good up to 270 ft/lbs of torque. I have an 89 vert with an USDM S5 TII swap with street port. The clutch does not slip with my setup and has a very smooth uptake witha slightly elevated pedal pressure from stock. I paid 325.00 plus shipping.
