My two cents? Leave it alone. It will prevent the kind of mishap you don't even want to think about when you're working on the car. Like having someone turn the key when part of your body is under the car and you're "sure that it's in neutral." You don't need a 2700 weight on your leg or chest.

The "neutral safety switch" switch is in car with automatic transmissions IIRC. No matter, its just terminology. The clutch safety switch is a simple switch on the clutch pedal bracket. If you cut the 2 wires and remove the switch, then connect the two wires together, you won't need to press the clutch to complete the ignition circuit.

No, the 5 speeds have a neutral safety switch as well. I'm not sure exactly how to tap into it, but it's there.

You could use that to ensure that the car can't be started in gear. It might involve a few relays & such, but it's doable.

^ That's correct. The clutch pedal has to be pushed down for the starter to turn.
