Clutch Release Cylinder

I'm doing a tranny swap right now S4 NA for S4 NA, I was curious does the clutch release cylinder have to come off in order to get the tranny off. Its a real bitch to reach...

Also how far does the tranny slide backwards off the input shaft.

Thanks.

the right tools made all the difference for me. get a spacer or something like that. it shouldn't be too hard.

i also had a hard time to get that last bolt off... the one on the very top. i think it was because i had all the weight on just that one bolt. try leaving the other ones in THEN unscrew the top one.

it only took me about 4-6 hours to drop mine. i'm sure putting it back in will be even bitchier...

That be what some of youse guys call a *slave cylinder*.

If you remove the oil filter you'll have a much easier time removing the slave cylinder.

Speaking of clutch cylinders, I think either my master or slave went out yesterday, because my pedal is dead, and when its depressed it does nothing at all. I cant dis-engage the clutch.
As of now I'm just going to rebuild both cylinders, and replace the slave cylinder hose with a stainless steel hose.
Any ideas on what happened?

Molotovman-

buy new tokico oem replacements. nopi.com has them for $30/master and $20/slave. rebuilds aren't worth the hassle. you might want an ss line too.

Thanks bingoboy, I definately will buy those instead of the rebuild kits. The kits are like $45 for both from mazdatrix. I'll go the maybe 15 bucks more for new tokico oem cylinders and shipping. I was going by the mazdatrix prices for new stock Cylinders, thats why i wanted to get the rebuild kits. Thanks again.
