clutch problems
hey guys i need some help. i have an 87 rx7 and i was on my way to work today and when i would engage my clutch it would make a loud whining sound and i smelled burnt clutch. then when i pulled into my work parking lot i tried to put it into first and it wouldn't go in. i don't know if the clutch just took a **** on me or if maybe i'm low on clutch/brake fluid. any help? my car is stuck at work til i can figure this out.
thanks,
tony.

The smell of burning clutch is what has me wondering though. However, a spent clutch will still let you engage it.
cltuch
it could be a number of things, i just replaced my clutch an 3000 miles later the clutch master cylindar went out, then after i replaced that the clutch hydralic went out "on my 1990 tII" you need to be more specific and tell us how old is your clutch. make sure the fluids are topped off. try pumping the clutch like a mad man for a good min and if it works a little "you get it in gear" then it's not the cluthc. it's some thing else
ok i figured it out. it was my slave cylinder. i popped the tranny off and little bearings went everywhere. now i'm just having trouble getting the trans back onto the motor. i've heard tipping the motor down? but i'm not sure. any help?

Ummmmmm, maybe you should take a few steps first - LIKE AWAY FROM THE CAR!
Explain how a slave cylinder = little bearings all over the place. Sounds like your pilot bearing took a **** to me. Hmmm, didn't someone else say that? Yup, two people did.

haha. yea. that's funny. the throwout bearing basically split apart inside the trans. i replaced that and the clutch. pilot bearing was in good condition, but i changed it anyways. the squealing came from the clutch not being able to fully disengage. therefore it was still hitting the flywheel and making the noise. thanks fer the help anyways guys.
