clutch problem

ok so when i start the car after a long period of time clutch pedal works perfectly. no trouble shifting. after 20 min though it gets harder and harder to put in the gears. ive tried bleeding the clutch system and it works fine for a couple of mins. i get the pressure back but then it turns all soft. i need some help. dont know why it works fine and then turns to crap. thanks guys.

My car does this too. I think changing out the transmission fluid helps... at least it did for me a little . But I still can't shift very quick from 1st to 2nd. There's like at least a one-second pause at the minimum to shift from 1st to 2nd.

is this happening even at stand still? If yes it could be your pilot bearing seizing up.

I don't know about dmode07, but mine is fine at idle. I just replaced my pilot bearing anyway.

Check your clutch master and slave cylinder. Also, check and make sure the clutch hose is not leaking. Sounds like you are losing pressure somewhere. Mine all went at the same time and when I'd sit at stoplight the clutch would engage.

Also check clutch system for leaks.

So...before i got to fix my car i think my transmission broke, if thats possible. i was heading to class and at a red light. the green light came on i tried to put it in first gear, which took a while but once it went in and i pressed the gas, i went maybe 5 feet and i hear the gear box make a loud pop! and then thats it. the car wouldnt move. the gears would go in, but the car wouldnt move. i jumped out and started pushing it across the intersection. While i was pushing i could hear like a *click click* coming from under the stick. So yeah...ideas anyone?

Try 4th gear.
It's straight through & dosen't use the countershaft.
If the car tries to move, it's the input gear.

The tranny section of the manuals has all the details.

When I broke my NA's input gear, I was able to limp home in 4th.
Good used trannies run $250-350.

oh btw. 4th gear didnt work. im guessing its the tranny but love to hear what else it could be. somebody told me it might have to do with the axle??? im not too sure though...oh and just so you guys know the sound wasnt coming exactly from under the stick but there is definitely a sound when i push it.

Could the pressure plate be cracked or cause any of these symptoms?

To the OP: Has the tranny fluid been changed recently? Is it the original clutch? Has the (axle) LSD fluid been changed recently?

The clicking noise is funny. You should inspect the driveshaft.

i know how you feel man. I broke my tranny for the 3rd time on tuesday. The first time it locked in reverse and i took it apart and unjammed it. and it did again so i just replaced the tranny.

Since you just broke your tranny now you might as well just replace it. and replace all the hydraulics.

As for your previous problem sounds definitely like the hydraulics. but now no real point in finding that out.

Old Indian trick. Make sure the engine starts easly in neutral. Don't hold the clutch in as I suspect the Clutch hydraulics have failed. IF you can get the car in gear with the engine OFF put the car in first or second gear. Make sure your not on an incline. Preferrably on a slight downhill. Hit the starter while the car is in gear and prepair to feed gas smoothly. If the tranny is good ( at least in the selected gear) the car will move. You will have to shut the engine off to stop the car. Make sure the car is in a place where it is off the road. I have driven for ten miles using this procedure when my clutch hydraulics failed. It seems to do no harm to the starter. In any case, replace the clutch master cylinder, slave and hose before you attack the transmission. About $100 for parts. You don't even have to get under the car for the replacement. There are two bolts, one on either side of the steering column that hold the master cylinder in place. They are accessable from under the dash, inside the car. Removing dash pieces is not necessary.
The problem is that your clutch is not disengageing to allow you to disconnect/connect the engine from/to the transmission. The popping noise you heard was possably the transmission popping out of gear. It popped because you were not completely in gear. Keep your fingers crossed that this is the case..
