Clutch pedal on the floor this morning.

Hey everyone.

I drove to Wally World last night with no problem. I went out to get my car started today and the clutch pedal had dissapeared. It was all the way on the floor. It was pretty cold last night, if that could have anything to do with it...

I havent had any prob's like this before so I'm kinda clueless. From what I can see everything on the inside of the firewall looks on the up and up. No leaking inside or broke/loose parts. From what I've read this is hopefully gonna be a problem with the clutch line/ master / slave. I'm haping it's not the release fork or anything like that where I'll have to tear it apart?

The car is in neutral and will start.. If I press the pedal it goes to the floor and I have to pull it up manually. No resistance either way.

Any input, ideas? Im about to go out and check the cylinder (DARK,FREEZING AND WINDY out ) but I wanted to post this asap as you guys help me more than anyone else.

FYI... I was thinking that the clutch was wearing down as It is sometimes hard to shift into 2nd gear. only second?? I have to rev it a bit.

thanks for looking. God bless.

Rob

master cyl. check on the inside of the cabin for leaks, they don't always break on the firewall. is there any resistance in the pedal when you press it down. will it start in gear and move as you crank with the pedal down?

Holy Sh%t there really is a Wally World? I love National Lampoon movies. Anyway it is a problem with your clutch line, master, or slave cylinder. Replace all and save yourself the headache of replacing something later if it fails. Mazdatrix sells the line for $16 I think and you can get the master and slave for pretty cheap at any auto parts store. Good luck.

no resistance at all with pedal. dead pedal just laying there.
can't get it into gear....not positive, but I think it will start with me not even touching the clutch pedal.

its prolly the master. replace them all at the same time and save your self the hassel of replacing till you find the problem. it will take all of 20 minutes to do the swap and its fairly cheap

It could be the master, but usually it's the rubber boot on the slave. If you don't see any leaks from the master, then follow the slave line with your fingers and see if you can feel any leaks or broken rubber on the slave cylinder. Be careful with your fingers so you don't cut them on anything.

There seem to be alot of threads like this, this week. Search before you post. lmao. It's either A. Your master cylinder or B. Your slave cylinder or C. both. Replace them.

The End.

MOST of the time its the slave cylinder in my experience. What your dealing with happened to me recently try pumping it an see if you can build pressure back up and then try holding the clutch in and see if the pedal sinks. See how bad it is. I had to use mine for about a week pumping it just to switch gears >_> if you went more than 6 miles without switching gears itd have no pressure >_>. So the other day i pulled the ENTIRE clutch hydrolic system ( in one piece ^_^) and swapped in a spare set and threw a braided line and pumped new fluid through it, and took me about 2 seconds to bleed it while on the car, w00t. My problem was the slave, boot was gone and fluid was slowly seeping out around the piston. Now it works amazing but the dust boot is still mostly gone >_<.

I think this is probably it... Usually when the pedal is stuck at the floor its the slave cylinder not the master...Easy enough to check both though... Is the clutch currently engaged or disengaged?

from the dead..almost.

I checked everything and still can't seem to find any leaks. My fluid was extremely low, almost gone. Filled it up and pumped the pedal and brought pressure back. Looks like it's holding pressure pretty well. I haven't driven it though...

Have new parts but haven't been able to install them yet...

thanks again everyone.

Ah bummer, I should have checked with you before I had the shop order a stock clutch.

Anyone know if a mildly upgraded "performance clutch" would be of any benefit for a bone stock N/A s4 for complete street / daily driving ?
