clutch noises

I was wondering what might be my problem
There is a noise in the clutch area when I take off in first and in any other gear just cant hear it as well, and when I coast in third at a decent speed.

The sound is not relative to how high I rev the motor to take off in first, the sound is relative to how fast I am moving. It’s like a metal on metal sound.

Also when the car is just in neutral it has whirling sound, that disappears when I depress the clutch.

I think it might be the through out bearing but im not sure.

And if so, do I have to remove the tranny completely to change the bearing or can the tranny slide back enough to get at it?

Has anybody done this???

Thanks for the help

There has been about 4 threads on this topic the last two nights. Sounds like a throw out bearing. Yes you have to remove the tranny. And while your at it change the clutch unless it's new and the last dummy didn't change the throw out bearing. And while your at it resurface the flywheel, change the pilot bearing and I changed my rear eccentric shaft seal while I was there.
