clutch master cyl rebuild
clutch master cyl rebuild
rebuilt the master and slave cylinder this weekend and it feels great. but today i just glanced at my haynes manual to see how they said to do it... I just winged it figuring it's just putting the same parts in in the same order... no problem. the rebuild kit came with a small copper crush washer looking thing that I hadn't seen anything like when I took it apart. me and a friend decided it must sit behind the piston but the manual says there's some small clear plastic disk (i never saw it) that goes in front of the piston... did i screw this up and do i need to rip it back apart and redo?

Those kits are generic for a couple of cars, the clear disk and/or copper washer thingy was probably supposed to go in the back, to prevent fluid from belching into the passenger compartment should the seals give out. I've never used those things...
Hey-this clear disk, it's not round & flat and has little holes going around it, is it?

save yourself the trouble time and money .. buy a new master .. they are like 30 from nopi.com and they will last longer than the temporary fix of a rebuilt master.
as for the kit ,, its probobly a universal kit and that might be needed for another car.. if yours holds up fine now. keep it .. just keep in mind that a rebuilt master and slave are only bandaids . not fixes

<BS> <--- That's official HTML 4.01 for "bullshit", lol...
I've still got the original master & slaves on my car. 193,000+ miles on them, 17+ years old. I rebuild them every year or so. As long as the bore is not corroded internally, and it's still nice & smooth, there is no reason to purchase another. If it is corroded, you haven't been keeping up with your recommended fluid changes, and you probably won't start with the new one, either. Haven't had ANY clutch hydraulic problems since I started rebuilding them periodically. It's an easy thing to do, akin to changing your tranny fluid. Same scenario with the brake master...

I was going to ask about that kit too - I picked up the official from Mazda clutch master rebuild kit and found it came with a big copper washer, but couldn't find a place for it to go - it's way too big to go inside the bore.
Although I did find my problem as the master rebuild kit came with a spring clip that I didn't have before, too.

You must have had more parts in yours than I did in mine - even from Mazda, the Clutch master and slave cylinder rebuild kit together was under $30. But it just replaced the stuff inside the cylinder, and you had to reuse the pushrod on the slave.

I didn't want to jump right out and say "Dude, you got scr00d!" That's not a bad price for new pieces. If I hadn't just spent $180 on new brake booster and master cylinders, then I might have gone that route. Instead, I just did the rebuild kits for like $12 a/pc. ... well, plus I wanted to know how that **** works.
