Clutch Install Question
My car is a S4 NA. I'm installing my new EXEDY Clutch this weekend. I want to get it done right the first time, and I want to make sure I have all the correct information before I dig into it (Daily Driver). I've done a lot of searching on the forum and still have a couple of questions. When I take it to get it resurfaced (at Napa) will they have all the specs? I was searching and found this interesting:
. What exactly does that mean? When I mentioned that its a "stepped" flywheel the guy at Napa seemed to know what I was talking about. My main concern is knowing about the flywheel machining! So any information would be helpful. I want to make sure this guy knows what he's doing. Thanks in advance for any help.

You should be fine going to napa. typically they tent to employ people who know what they are talking about. The only trick to Flywheel surfacing is to take it to a place that will make sure the flywheel is true on the lathe before he/she starts cutting it. If you have an Exedy kit it should have come with a new pressure plate if it doesnt then when you get the PP shaved then make sure they shave the whole surface not just the mating surface. But if I were you I would just get a new one.
If you look at the flywheel, you will notice that there is the contact surface (inner) for the clutch disc to grab onto. Near the flywheel teeth are the pressure plate mounting bosses as one forum memember put it. I have heard them referred to as "ears" as well. This is where the pressure plate mounts to the flywheel.
Now for the process. The amount taken off the contact surface MUST be equal to the amount taken off the pressure plate mounting surfaces. If the amount take off both places is not exact, you will get uneven wear, I believe. I have also heard of the clutch not engaging correctly. Hope this helps.
