Clutch going clikety clack

guys you think i might have a bent fork and that is why it isnt releasing properly. When i sit at the light you can hear it clatter and catch when my foot is all the way down.....then the car stats bouncing as if it is catching slightly...why? anyone?

Transmission in gear or out of gear? If it is in gear, then your pilot bearing is probably toasted and is grabbing onto the input shaft. If this is the case you need to fix it soon or your tranny might get pretty well stuck onto the E-Shaft. Also you may want to check your clutch hydraulics for leaks or leak down. Have somebody press the clutch in and hold it, while you watch the slave cylinder to see if any fluid leaks out and or to see if it starts to creep back from full extension while the clutch pedal is still depressed.

how hard is a pilot bearing to change if i have the tool and someone to help me jack and pull my tranny back and how expensive are they? It happens while in gear and all of the hyrdraulics are new. Also in the morning the car likes to whine from the tranny when in neutral and out of gear sitting at a light. Sounds pretty much like this bearing is going out right?

With the tranny in neutral, and the clutch pedal out any whine is just from the transmission, you should probably change the fluid. Pilot bearing should cost around $15 I think. With the tool from autozone it took me about 10 minutes to modify the tool with my dremel and about 2 minutes to get the bearing out. If you get it from the zone, you will need the pilot bearing tool and a slide hammer.

It's a PITA if you're doing it without a lift in my opinion.

aight guys i jacked the car and J200pruf spent the entire night heling me until five this morning (way cool) and pulled the tranny and replaced the release bearing which when i pulled it out the lil tongs on the side that catch the fork one was bent and took almost nothing to break it. So we put a new release bearing back in there and greased it up and put the tranny back on and started her up and it is smoother to shift and what not but the whine in neutral has gotten even worse and doesnt go away when it warms up now. I am wondering if the whine is from the pilot bearing and if having a good throwout bearing working the way it should has increased the load and that is what is making the thing whine the way it is. Any help would be appreciated guys-- Derek

mark can you lock this thread and leave that link. I have bad input and output shaft bearings, maybe just one or the other, I will replace both and replace that speedo gear seal and maybe I will be good.
