clutch getting stuck to the floor

Hey there

My clutch keeps getting stuck to the floor. I have to put my foot under it and lift it up and/or pump the clutch to keep it from doing this. A friend of mine said that he thinks the clutch cable just needs to be tightened because it's loose and the clutch is too high. This might be the problem but I think it might have something to do with air bubbles in the clutch fluid tube or something else regarding the clutch fluid. I am not sure of any of this though.

Any help with my problem would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

We dont have clutch cables.. Either your slave/master cylinder is failing, or you need to check/add/bleed the system.

I would take a look at the master cylinder and under/behind the carpet near the drivers feet chances are you'll find no fluid in the master cylinder and it'll all end up behind the carpet in the driver footwell thus you don't see fluid leaking on anything in the engine bay. Good luck on it.

I think I might just need to bleed the clutch which brings me to a couple other questions- is there any reccomended clutch fluid i should use? Also when i bleed and replace the fluid, should i just bleed out what fluid is in the tube or everything in the resevuior as well? If it does end up to be the clutch master/slave how much do those generally cost?

thanks for all the help and for bearing with me -- I'm new to the rx-7 community

check your system for leaks, i had the same problem.....its an easy fix

fill up the resivour and have somebody pump the clutch, meanwhile your looking in the engine bay at the lines, hopefully youll find the leaky spot

Problem Solved!

I bled the clutch and filled the resevuior back up (it was about half empty) and she runs perfect! No more clutch stuck to the floor.

I just thought I would let you guys know the outcome for anyone who pulls this up in a search or has the same problem.

Thanks everyone for your help.

kiyokix- just for reference a clutch master cylinder can go bad without leaking out the fluid. trust me i know from experience.

If the resevoir was empty, then there is a leak somewhere. The clutch system is closed, there should be no fluid consumption. Invisible leaks tend to be the master cylinder, since the fluid leaks into the car and is absorbed by the carpet.

i agree with aaron, you will think that its working fine till a week or two later when the problem returns, ive had this issue with two fc's in recent years, nothing sucks more than loosing the whole system and having to start the car in 2nd gear and get it home without shifting...best bet is to rebuild or replace.
