clutch fork have a spring?

so my master and slave cylinder went in my 91 vert they were both shot and leaking and I was touching my clutch fork and I can move it forward and back and i can move it where I want too. isn't there supposed to be a spring inside that pushed it back forward? or is the bearing just hitting the plate on the clutch and stopping? just seems to have a lot of slack

Pressure plate should be pushing it back if I'm not mistaken? Never really studied a clutch system in depth....

The release fork pivot stud could be worn or broken.

And the cup in the fork could be worn also.

The fork pops onto a ball socket which yes, does have a spring. With the slave cylinder removed there will be play back and forth as if it was being engaged or disengaged by the clutch pedal, but it should not move up and down exclusively. If it was jarred or tugged on during slave cylinder remove and install it could have popped off the ball socket.
