Clutch Fluid leakin'!

So, my clutch seems like it's dying pretty good. It sometimes sticks to the floor, it's leaking break fluid, the works...

Now it's leaking from a hose that leads to the front of the car to a small radiator looking thing *The oil cooler?*. I guess I have a couple questions..what is that thing up there, and how much/how hard is it to replace that line?

Oh come on, somebody must have the answers? My father said it was the Oil Cooler, but he is wrong at times, and why would it go to the OIL cooler? I admit, I'm an idiot when it comes to cars, but...I don't know.

the thing in the front of the car is the oil cooler and you dad is right. the lines to the oil cooler I dont think are to hard to replace. but I whould replace the lines before you start driving the car. and they go to the oil cooler so the oil that cools the engine is cooler.

Hmm, well sadly, I have no other way of getting around. It's not leaking too much, so I'm in luck for that, so I just keep a bottle of brake fluid in my car. I'm debating about getting my transmission rebuilt while I'm at it....Any idea how much replacing those lines to the oil cooler are?

just buy the lines and replace it yourself, or ask your dad for help while doing it.

I wouldn't have to take anything out? I can just put it up on ramps and get to everything easily?

Just making sure so I don't embark on something that I won't be able to finish, thus not being able to drive my car AT ALL.

I think the lines are held in by 2 bolts on each line. one on the engine and one on the oil cooler. but I might be wrong.

My AC is already removed, so that, I'm assuming, will make a bit easier to get to some things...lets just hope I don't have to remove anything else. haha.

Anybody know where I could purchase these hoses?

Everything on this page is pointing to OIL cooler...I'm not sure if that's the same thing I need to replace...hell, I'm not even 100% sure it's the actual break fluid it's spilling. It's an ugly brown color *makes me think oil* but my clutch fluid is going down, and the resevoir has a black film on top..so I just figured it's burnt clutch fluid. Smells like break fluid too...

Does the clutch fluid *break fluid* go to the oil cooler?

the clutch fluid should go no wear near the oil cooler. and if your useing break fluid as clutch fluid then if its burning then it will smell like break fluid.

yeah does this confuse anyone else? so what is leaking the oil cooler line or the clutch line? they are 2 different things. The clutch line goes from the master cylinder to the slave and ends. that is where you should be checking for leaks.

Haha, yeah, after reading up a bit, everything doesn't make sense. The reason I first thought it was break fluid, was because my father said that's probably what it was, and the fact my clutch fluid is going down, and oil is staying up. The leak seems to be right under the hose leading to the cooler. It's brown like oil, but *to me* smells like break fluid. I don't know...I'll find out probably tomorrow. I'll grab some pics of exactly what I'm talking about, though I'm sure it's oil leaking....for some reason though not lowering my reservoir any...

Either way, that damn hose is almost 200 bucks. D:

Talking

My clutch slave cylinder pooped out on me. It leaked for a while, and the pedal would stick to the floor, but I just kept popping it back up. Then one day I went to shift from 2nd to 3rd and the pedal dropped dead to the floor. So then I had the fun drive home where I had to find a way to never come to a complete stop, in 2nd gear. (Which is a good gear to be stuck in mind you, it's quite versatile.)

All that to say, check your clutch slave cylinder. Mine was blown wide open. I got a new master and slave off eBay for less than a hundred dollars. (I think it was like 70 bucks.)

Don't both replacing one without the other either. If you're gonna replace the master, replace the slave and if you need to replace the slave, replace the master too. Nothing's worse than fixing one and having the other go kaput the very next day. :-P

Once you've fixed the problem, make sure you bleed the old clutch fluid out and have a buddy pour the new in while you pump the clutch.

Cheers,
Cody

My Clutch Slave already went out. I've replaced that maybe 6 months to a year ago..so it SHOULDN'T be that. I know the guy who put the new clutch in the car before I got it *yes this clutch is around 2 years old...* put it in like a doofus and now I have a fried clutch plate. So I know I need to replace the ENTIRE clutch..I'm just wishing everything didn't go wrong at the same time.
