clutch fluid color

I was doing a check-up under the hood last week, I noticed that my clutch fluid was at the min level. When a added fluid, the color that is in the tube, became discolors-dark brown/blackish.
I have also notice that when shifting be car doens't "lurch". This may sound weird but when I change gears it whether at High or low rpms it shifts smoother than a automatic--no power lunge, when the clutch locks up--there is no slippage, though the petal is a bit soft.
The main questions are--why is the fluids color off, and is my clutch on its last leg before slippage or is the master or slave cylinders need rebuild or replaced( They do leak a bit)?
This is on a 86' 2+2 with 130 w/ on missing muffler(waiting to be replaced--soon)
Thanks

Mazda recommends the clutch and brake fluid to be replaced every 30000 miles or every year if you:

Drive hard regularly (and who here doesn't?)
operate the car in humid climates
Use the brakes alot
or do mountain driving.

Sounds like maybe its been a while for your car if its brown.

If the fluid does not get changed regularly it is common for the slave to corrode on the clutch system on most japanese cars.
