clutch on floor

ok, so today i drove home from work and everything was fine. it shifted great with no problems. about an hour later, i went to go for a ride and mutch to my suprise, the clutch would not release from the floor. the funny thing was that it got going, then went out in second gear. so i managed to limp it home shifting w/o the clutch but it leaves me in a bad place... what am i going to do? there was very little clutch fluid in the res. but there were no puddles where it was parked or where it went out. if i put fluid in the res. and bled it would it work? or could my releace fork be bent? this happen to anyone else out there? by the way, its a 88gxl 5-sp.

pull the pedal back up, and then have someone push the pedal back down, and look and see if the slave cylinder goes fully out, it should move like2-3 inches. if it doesnt, it should ber the master and slave cylinders.

i had the same thing happan like 2 months ago, and that was the problem. but while your at it, do the flex line as well, and the whole job shouldnt come to more than 80 bucks (CAN prices)

edit( mine still had a little hydrolic pressure if i pumped the pedal hard for a couple seconds, then the car would slide down the driveway, also an easy way to check)

Yeah, I just fixed this same problem last week. I replaced the clutch slave cylinder with
a brand new one and purchased a stainless clutch line from Corksport. Fixed it and no
problems with it yet. The new clutch line feels great too.

Sounds like 1) Lack of clutch fluid, 2) Broken master/slave cylinder. You should check around the brake booster for the leak.

yeah, i checked around the brake booster where the clutch fluid res. is and nothing. no leak or anything of that nature. how much would a master cylinder cost? (us dollars)

I replaced mine about 2 months ago, being the impatient bastard I am did not order online. So paid ~60 for the slave and ~80-90 for the master, lifetime warranty parts. I think it was like 150-200 to get the parts and pay the local shop to install. (i hate bleeding brakes, and such alone) Can't remember the name of the parts but they came in a yellow box with black writing, it was the same company that makes the OE uints.

there is fluid in the res. and the fork does move about 2-3 in. when i went to bleed the system, it would get hard again then all the sudden go back to the same thing. could it be that i just have air in the line still? how do i check the master/slave cylinder?

bleed the slave cylinder you need two people.....that crap happend to me not too long ago..i was pissed...cause i just replaced the clutch and slave cylinder but the dumn *** forgot too bleed the clutch system, but if its pressure thats missing then its most likely your slave....

locate the slave and there will be a screw type thing on it then get a bottle and a little hose that will fit the top of that screw put the hose on and the other end in the bottle....

make sure the cap is still on the clutch master though....
now with the engine on have someone pump the clutch pedel like two to three times...then loosen the screw eather with plyers or a wrench i think its a 9mm or 8mm that will fit the screw just enough to see some fluid come out into the bottle might be air too...

then tighten it back up, pump the clutch again...and repeat till all the air is gone then you should have pressure in the pedal
no more sticking to the floor....

good luck, man

let us know how it goes.....

charlie....
