Clutch Diagnosis

Can anyone give me a diagnosis on my clutch problem? All I have to do now is drop the transmission and would like to know exactly what's wrong so I could get the job done right away. Included is a video of a sound that the clutch mechanism makes when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Broken pivot ball on the clutch fork? Something is moving, but it's not pushing against the pressure plate at all.

If you have it this far and havn't removed it yet, what you should do is while your pressing the clutch pedal use something to see if the clutch is able to turn, like push it with a screwdriver or something. If it doesn't your pressure plate could be warped/bent(I have personally seen this).

Did it work or are you only worried about the noise? Cuz this noise could just be the hydraulic pressure working with air in the clutch lines.

yeah check the clutch fork it may not be connected. I just replaced my clutch and i almost put the tranny back on and i noticed that it fell off becaused i didn't connect it when i replaced the throwout bearing. you could say i felt kinda stupid. also you could take the flywheel, and pressure plate to your local machine shop and they can measure to see to check for warping.

What do you guys think with these pictures? The pressure plate fingers are also not pointed outwards as much as it normally should. I also found a bit of rust within the pressure plate.

I also found an unblocked nipple. Anyone know what it is from, and if i should bother blocking it off?

The pressure plate wasn't really a suspect IMHO. What does the shift fork look like, and is the piston extending properly from the slave cylinder?

The only thing wrong I could see with the clutch fork is a possible hairline crack right where the pivot ball is. As for the piston of the slave cylinder, it extends normally as of my knowledge. It extends ~1". Going back to what GeTCrAzYKiD said, could the creaking noise that happens when I depress the clutch pedal simply be air in my clutch system?

Here are some pics I took when I got the transmission down.

Have you looked @ your pivot? I went months replacing every hydraulic aspect of my clutch system, bleeding it, etc. Shitty shifting and constantly changing pedal feel and so on. It turned out to be the pivot. They are pretty weak in design and I replaced the pivot, fork, and spring along w/ an ACT clutch kit into my TII recently and it's been butter smooth ever since. I had similar sounds as that prior to the tranny work we just did on my car.

and everything new and replaced!

happy new ACT costumer!

= Me enjoying my car again! Butter ******* smooth shifting!

You already have the transmission out. Lift that fork outta place and check for fatigue on your pivot and replace it if possible. I would go ahead and replace that fork. With the pivot, new fork and spring from Mazda I think it was around $25 to my door. If you have the tranny out its completely work it.

I checked the pivot ball, and it seems to be all good still. I believe the pivot ball sheared off a few months ago (from the previous owner) and was replaced then, so I think it'd still be good.

Looks good to me but who knows... I think it's a shitty design myself.

your pressure plate has the wear from the throw-out bearing, not too big of a deal. I'd replace that ebaring pretty cheap, even from mazda like 30$ The squeaking could come from the fork when you prees the clutch, that crack could be splitting but not extending. It's kinda hard to explain but I would for sure replace that bad bitch.and grease it up..

I bought the act clutch kit, so I'm replacing everything that came in the kit as well as the clutch fork. I think I know what you mean about the fork. Thanks for your input.

one question, i started my car up after a pilot and release bearing and clutch replacement and was toying around with the throttle, revving the engine up to 2k rpm in neutral with the car on jacks. after getting out of the car, i noticed that my rear wheels were turning slowly for maybe about 3-5 seconds after revving the engine. my previous problem was that my clutch isn't disengaging... any advice?
