No no no, i didn't mean literally 'drove it home', I meant speedshifted into 5th lol with no clutch pedal, since I'm assuming you ran out of 4th gear and shifted into 5th hard, either with clutch or without that's my guess as to why it died, probably the sudden abrubt 'catching' from the rpm difference taking it's toll on a pretty bad quality disc.

Unless, the clunk came while you were in 4th and accelerating and when you hit 5th there was nothing there? I'm not sure from what you said if you shifted to 5th with no clutch pedal (as in speedshifting), or it died in 4th, or it died when you shifted (using the clutch) into 5th.

It looks like the rivets just sheared off. Obviously the rivets were not up to the task. There are two causes for them to shear off besides the obvious possibility of poor rivet material: 1) torque load from dumping the clutch in a drag start or 2) torsional vibration. From your desription, it sounds like torsional vibration. These pulses from the engine work like an impact hammer does and once there is the slight bit of looseness in the hub, the rivets just get beat until they shear off. On our discs we use stainless rivets instead of just mild steel, and we still see them come back sheared off occasionally. We started using 16 rivets instead of 8 which should eliminate the issue. I don't know who you got that disc from, but wow it must be heavy with that many pucks on it!

The bottom line is that it probably wasn't from anything you did.

Seriously, what brand clutch is that so others know not to get it. If it was an ebay clutch then that kinda explains it.
