Sounds like a transmission problem to me. (EDIT: For clarification - it sounds to me like the clutch isn't releasing ad engaging properly withi the transmission bellhousing.) Time to drop that tranny and check her out! Also, have you checked your clutch slave cylinder? If the clutch isn't releasing all the way / properly I would imagine you'd get a clunky sound.

Also, if it had been the front diff mount you wouldn't have heard a clunk so much as you would have felt it. And it would occur on accel / decel more than putting the clutch in / out. I know, my front diff mount came off in two pieces. :-P

Cheers,
Cody

Sounds like a shot throw-out bearing to me - or a loose flywheel. I'd be hoping for the throwout bearing.

Are you getting any vibration on the road? For me it was my U joint shifting and clunking. Most of the time I hear it's the diff mount though.

Are you talking about a bleed fitting perhaps?

Is the clunking from the back of the car? There are TONS of bushings and mounts back there that can go bad. I need to replace just about all of them on my car. Just gotta' keep driving till i get a DD though .
