Clunk!!!

Yes thats right, im pretty sure i broke my diff mount. I do hard launches sometimes (usually at the track) Ive noticed a clunk when i start off and shift gears. My question is, could i reweld this with it on the car, i really dont have the time to drop my subframe here anytime soon. I'm going with my TII conversion here in a month or 2 so i just want this to be fixed for a temp. Any of you guys done it this way?

Have you actually seen the broken mount? If so read no further. If not seen also consider front U joint.

Yah, may not be the diff mount. I have a solid one I just put in that is definitely not broken and my clunking remained. That's why I have some new u-joints sittin right here waitin for me

If it is the mount and not the bracket, then you wouldn't be able to weld because it is a rubber mount. Also, you don't need to drop the subframe to change the mount. I took out my stock rubber one (turned out to be unbroken) and put in the solid one with the subframe still in there, just unbolted everthing so it hung down low enough to get to things.

Okay got it up on a lift today, when i pushed up on the driveshaft the front end of the diff lifted up. I was able too look into the rear while doing this and i found that the section of rubber had seperated from one of the brackets (red line signifies where it split). Is it possible to remove the rubber block and just weld in sections of metal between the plates (see green line) and make it solid?

Sorry about the quality of the pic

Well... Considering the block of rubber has studs coming out to bolt onto a bracket to hold the diff up, I'd say no. I'd just PM scalliwag and buy one of his solid (metal) front diff mounts and put that in, that thing will never break (almost ).

Not very fun.

Took me about 6 hours to get everything mounted and fabbed.

Now if your diff mount is broken you WILL know.

It will feel like the rearend is falling out every time you shift.
It's an ungodly bashing clunk you hear.
