Question Clicking sound from the ECU - Car dies

I have a problem, which i need help with...Please
sometimes when i drive my car, it dies and then comes back on, once in awhile it totally dies and thjere is no power at all, not even a readout from the incar voltmeter, this is sometimes solved by taking the posetive lead off and putting it back on.

I can hear a clicking sound from the ECU which i took apart today and inspeted it, nothing seemed broken or corroded.
The ECU# is 322 and its an 1986 GXL european model, are there any known problems with this unit
hIGGI told me that it could be the ECU resetting itself for some odd reason, but is there a solution for this or do i need a new ECU

Any info is appreciated as im going to a trackday in sweden next week.

I thought the ECU was all solid state (no relays).
I would start by checking the battery connections & grounds.
My guess is you have a loose or rusty ground somewhere.

Check your main battery connections too, at the 80 amp fuse in the engine bay. Make sure they havent gone loose on ya.

The ECU contains all solid-state components, i.e IC "chips", resistors, capacitors, etc. There are no relays in it, which would cause a "clicking" sound. If you hear a noise that souds like a relay opening/closing, than it must be coming from something other than the ECU. It might be some other relay, which is located near the ECU.

Regarding your problem with the car quitting for no expected reason, I once had a problem with my 90 GXL doing the same thing. It was when the was still new with only about 6K miles on it. I'd be driving down the road an it would just shut off like it ran out of fuel. Took it to the dealer, and after several days they found that it was a bad AFM. So, you may want to check out your AFM during your troubleshooting of the problem.

Thanks HD
I will look after a relay up, next tims she acts up, which she hasnt in 24 hours now yeeeeeaaaaa*crossing my fingers*
I dont think that its related to the AFM as it doesnt die out, its more like a shut off

no, wrong wrong wrong.

your ECU can make many clicking noises! Sure it's all solid state, but that doesnt' mean that everything is silent.

Fried capacitors frequently make "clicking"sounds. If this was the DSM forum there would be 100 people telling you your ECU is fried allready

The problem turned out to be a corroded wire in the wireing loom on the drivers side strut, big one too. Never found out what it did, just soldered it and never had a problem ever since.
PM me for info, I don't go to the second gen forum alot since i got an SA and FB now
