Exclamation Clicking in belt area

I just noticed it, I just got the car running it had been sitting for about five years before I bought it. there is a very distinctable noise coming from the belt area...a "tick" "tick" "tick" could this be internal or just a component? Could it be an injector? It's awfully loud. Any info on this topic would help a great deal. Thankyou

i wonder if it's the same as mine, mine's the pulley, and the belt being old and brittle. first, change your belts. if that doesn't help, probably grease up your pulley or replace your pulley.

If you think it's one of the pumps you can take a long screwdriver and set it against the pump while the car is running and place your ear at the other end of the screwdriver and use it like a stethescope. This will allow you to eliminate other parts that your not sure of. That is how I figured out my air pump was shot. I wasn't quite sure of which part was making the noise until I did this. It's old-school but works well to figure out where a ticking noise is coming from. Just don't get the screwdriver in the belts while the car is running. I have visions of someone getting injured from a flying screwdriver. LOL

Pulleys require grease?
Why was I not informed?

Edit: NM, it just occurred to me that sometimes an idler/tension pulley might need a bit of lube...you could mark them with a dab of white marker and see if the tick-tick corresponds to the rotation.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't wd-40 have an adverse effect on pulleys? I thought it ate up the grease only making the problem worse.
