clear coat chipping off hood.why??

The clear on my 88T2 is chipping off but only on the hood. Is it only there cuz its alluminum? Is it normal for a car that old? When it rains water gets under and makes little bubbles on my hood that eventualy flake off after the water goes away or when I make them. Any suggestions? Could I just redo the clearcoat on the hood or what? thanks in advance.

Yep the sun is the biggest problem. The heat will do lots more damage than the Engine temp, look at it this was u have a problem if the Engine is geting that hot.

I take it's Base and clear (ie metalic) all paints have there flaws, Solids (ie reds etc) go Oxidised (not shiny and loss there colour) and Base and Clears over time becouse the clear is put on over dry base the key brakes down and it will ither flake off from stone chips or bubble up.

There is'nt alot you can do, just find a good Body Shop.

Hope this helps abit......Chris

here's my sunroof from a few months ago. now that's clear coat coming off story goes the mazda dealership repainted it it 89 cause it got scrached up before the first guy bought it, and the dealership did a cheap job to paint it up so the guy would buy it. it's been comming off for a couple years now and I finaly repainted it a few months ago.

Thanks guys.Yes I have the heat shield still but I haven't waxed it. I'm waiting a while longer to paint it cuz I'm getting a body kit (RE-Amenya front end, don't know what side skirts, and a bomex rear.) I don't wanna spend a lot of money on the paint until I get the body kit but is there anything I can do to make it stop peeling or look better??
