At threshold-'plus' breaking the car seemed to get pretty light in the rear and wanted to come around, but this is to be expected. It was easy to control and I suspect a non-ABS RX would duplicate this. As a side note, the proportioning valve for either car has the same part number in 1989, so I did not replace this for this project, nor will I in the future.

+1 For removing the ABS.
I crashed 2 times in a nissan due to the ABS engaging in a lift-of-oversteer situation.
While sliding, I floored the brake pedal, instead of slowing down, it went with the nose straight forward into the railguards.
The moment when I floored the brake pedal the control of the vehicle was "lost" so
it was the last choice to make. Countersteering could not stabilize the car.
Generally I have the feeling that people driving cars without ABS have a more sensitive
braking foot. If you dont upset the balance of the car you can even brake very well
in corners.
I am happy my 7 has no ABS.
Regards
Steven

You did. I PM'd the OP as I am in the process of removing my ABS system due to a leaking pump. I'll be sure to add any relevant pics and info to this thread as soon as I am finished with the conversion.
One question though...I have a 88 T2 with the 4-piston front calipers. If I am replacing the ABS master with a non-ABS master cylinder, does the proportioning valve need to be replaced? I thought there was no difference between the ABS and non-ABS proportioning valves, but I am having trouble verifying this.

I had excellent success following this writeup!! I tried to document the process as best as I could in my thread ABS pump removal with pics. I feel the brake system is not an area to cut corners on, especially when removing a safety feature like ABS. While I wasn't able to keep the whole project below $100, I find the braking much firmer and stronger than before.
Many thanks to OP for providing part numbers and guidance on removing the ABS system!! This was the most helpful thread I found on converting to a non-ABS system.
