Cigar lighter is broken, but mirrors and clock work

So as the title says, Cigar lighter is broken, but mirrors and clock are working fine. It stopped working after I used a tire inflater for a few minutes. About 3 mo ago I replaced the 10A fuse and it had been working along happily recharging my GPS, but I didn't subject it to something with higher draw like a tire inflater. Any idea what could be the issue?

use a multimeter and test the socket for 12V. if you are not getting 12V, pull the radio surround and check the wiring and make sure it is intact and the connections are tight. if you are getting 12V up to the lighter socket then the socket itself is bad or is very corroded.

just updating for future reference. There's a wire on the back of the socket, kind of like a fuse I suppose. It's hard to describe but it's like a fuse I suppose. The wire probably prevents it from heating up too much and burning up other things.
