chupacabra and my starter
chupacabra and my starter
Alright, so J rat mentioned that maybe my Starter went on vaction, because I get no power to it at all.
Or maybe the chupacabra struck again.
I took my starter out, and went to Autozone to have it tested. Worked fine.
I put it back in, and turned the key, Big Fat NOTHING. No click, not sound, Nothing.
So then I decided to take a jumper directly from the solenoid and test it. Big fat Nothing. And then I decided to take the jumper and have a friend tounch it to the positive terminal while I tested the voltage accross it with my digital volt meter. Read -16.08 mv. I did this three times to make sure I had the contacts in the right place. I tested the jumper wire and it was at 12.36 V.
Now,
Is it possible that the starter is faulty in some chupacabra like way that when it's brought down to autozone and it works under "lab" conditions, that it could still be bad, or somehow go schitzo on the way back home?
WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF???

Chupa! Yeah chupachabra! Gonna reach gonna reach gonna reach right out and grab ya!
Sounds like the starter solenoid to me. When you had the starter tested was it the starter straight up or via the solenoid?

I did four things.
I jumpered it to the starter soleniod. and tested the voltage accross the Starters mainlead. Read
-16.whatere mv, basically nothing.
Then, without the jumper connected I tested the voltage accross the starters leads, read 12.39 V
Then, for appearently no reason at all, I decided to test each of the starters leads to ground, each read 12.3..whatever V, because right now I'm grasping at straws.
I even tested the voltage accross the ignition switch inside the car, and it was 12 V when the key went to start position.
J-rat, what am I doing wrong? I want to kill myself.
That's the crazy thing!

Oh this is hopeless.
I think this is going to be a murder suicide thing where I take my car to the crusher and kill myself.
RB down pipe Presilencer and exhuast, completely rebuilt engine, Bridgestone z rated tires, kinda cool rims......Too bad cause I was just getting around to the body and interior...She was ugly but damn fast.
Its like a crazy love ro-tangle.
If I can't have her, the no one will.
Yup, to the crusher!

Temple I'm still not sure what you meant by -16.. ?
Sometimes solenoids do act up on us at work. Rather than just test them, we just replace them. 90% of the time solves the problem.
But I find it wierd you cant get it to work but autozone can..
Try and get a different starter first before you crush your car, I wouldnt base my whole experience on what a testing machine down at autozone tells me. I have had problems like what your talking about but with rebuilt starters(went through 8 of them in two weeks). If all else fails find a mazda dealer.

Picture this:
The jumper from the postive terminal to my volt meter reads 12 volts, before even touching it to the starter. And it should. Just to make sure I have a 12 volt connection in the jumper from the positive terminal.
Then,
I take my volt meter and touch the nut/bolt on the positive lead of the starter to ground-everything checks out 12 volts.
And then I have my friend touch the jumper to the positive terminal while Iam testing the soleniod.
All of the sudden BAM! -16 Milli Volts.
Friend stops touching the Positive terminal
BAM! 12 volts again.
Perhaps I am not explaining this well because I am a big fat retard!
Perhaps you're right, that it is the soleniod.
Or Mabey its....
a.......CHUPACABRA SOLENIOD!

Thanks for the help Black, Jrat
I would like to welcome a new addition to the family
The GXL POS series.....
It was my friends but I helped him fix the clutch and just about everything else that went wrong. And it ran for 8 months. Now that annoying coolent light goes off. The windows don't roll down, the passenger side door doesn't open and it won't stay running again now because there's some systemwide Chupacabra failure in the electrical charging circuit.
I got her for FREE today. She'll be my 3rd rx7.
But I am a nut case. Why, because I had the opportunity to by a 93 saturn for 1000 bucks at 100 bucks a month. Its reliable got fog lights traction control. Blah blah blah.....But you know what?
**** Saturns.
I want my rx7 to run.
So I said to my friend, I'll work out a deal where you get the saturn for 1000 bucks and I get the rx7 for the parts I need.
Viola! Its mine.
You know I'm a Rex nut when I passup a deal on a nice 93 Saturn for a non running RX.
I am going to stomp the **** out of the Chupacabra!

Don't forget to look over the grounds, once when I was changing my clutch in my 89 gtu I forgot to recconnect the passenger firewall ground with the sip on connector and with it not connect my car wouldn't even atemp to crank, it would just make a clicking sound, then I connected the ground and it started right up....just a thought...
Alrgiht.
Now I'm gonna replace the my Rx with the GXl starter whcih I know works,
Talk about Ironic.
I have an Rx that won't start but when she does everything's Fine.
I now have GXl that does start but won't keep running reliably.
And one quick question about my aftermarkeet injectors. Yesterday I pulled out the primaries and replaced them with OEM, because I think the OEMs are better.
I took the aftermarket injectors and tested the resistance, 16 ohms. Not the 1.2-3.0 ohms that specified in my haynes her way manual. Both OEms are at 2.2....Could this be the cause of the hard starting before my starter even went out?
Anyway to the starters....
Ready.
Set...
GO!

Sometimes bench testing doesn't mean jack ****.
She's turning over just fine now.
Now I just have to prime the fuel system since I replaced the aftermarkets yesterday.....
Finally, Progress.

Thanks.
But I fear the Chupacabra has moved on to my Audio settings.
Now, for some reason my stereo doesn't work at all.
Makes me laugh.
