CHP VIN Identify
Hi,
I plan on taking my 87 FC to a CHP to get the vin verified. My car has an s5 turbo swap in it with greddy fmic and bov, aftermarket exhaust with no cats. I was wondering if I have to make it look stock as much as possible, or can I just take it there since they're only verifying the vin I supposed. I need to get the brakes and lights signed off as well which are working perfectly.

Boy, are you asking for trouble. Don't forget this is the Peoples Republic of California.
If you go to a random CHP for that, you might as well go ahead and make an appointment with your local Referee. You need to network for a friend of a friend that happens to wear the uniform and might look the other way otherwise. If the BOV alone if venting into the air, you're toast once the hood is opened to check the VIN on the firewall.

I did a Vin check at the DMV twice before. Once was for an out of state car, the other was to bring it out of salvage.
DMV person doesn't look for mods. If they ask, say you just bought it that way. It needs to get the Vin inspection so you can get your moving permit. The moving permit gets it to the shop where they will fix everything and make it compliant.
Also, brake and light inspection is a joke. They charge $100+ to look at your light bulbs and brakes. But there isn't any other way around it.

i did the DMV one too. the Rx8 has HUGE badges on it telling you an Rx8 and we were standing right in front of said badging and she asked what kind of car it was.
i should have told her it was a 69 Borgward, so i wouldn't have to smog it, they would not have known the difference.
although the DMV is not the CHP....
