Choking on exhaust, literally.

Well, a few weeks ago rattling started to come from the general location of my header, I thought it was just the heat shield rattling, and ignored it.

Well, today it got louder, and when I turn my heat all the way up, it brings a tear to my eye. Literally. Exhause in the cabin. Could this at all have to do with the O2 sensor?

btw, it's a 1991 n/a.

I have a jack and 2 jackstands. I wanted to use them to lift the car so I could get a look at the situation. But the jacking points, directly behind the front wheels, were wierd. I mean, that firstly, it's hard to get a jackstand where the jack allready is, and when I tried to put the jackstand on the jacking point, it folded the metal over.
Like so:
______
|
______
\

I took the pressure off of the jack stand before any more damage could be done.

Any help with this situation? Anyone ever have this happen to them?

thanks...later

Yea mines are bent and folded over after jacking them up. I just leave em like that, I figure if I try and fold them back over to make them straight again, it'll just weaken it even more.

I just jack it in spite of the / looking jack points.

I abhor (SAT volcab w00t!) the jacking points on my car. I tried to use a jackstand on them stupidly once, and I left a nice little imprint of them in my fender. Plus my points looks like craters.

is there not a jacking point on the front of the car? every car i've ever worked on, you can slide the floor jack under the front, bit a crossmember or subframe and lift it that way. put the jack stands right behind the front wheels.

i'm new to the RX7, but i don't see why it would be that much different

You can put it under the crossmember, the times I had to put it on the side I had to use that stupid jack that comes with the car.

my prelude is like that. it's lowered, so the floor jack won't slide under the front of the car. I have to use the factory scissor jack to jack up the car behind the front wheel some so i can slide the floor jack in from the front

Oh. I was unaware that the center brace had the strength to jack the car up on, that will help allot. But the question was supposed to be more geared twords the exhaust leak sutuation, it's pretty bad. Has this happened to many people, if any?

While I have it up, I'll se about removing the ac compressor, and power steering. I was suprised to find such good information on that here, nice work.

About the bolt sizes though, this is how I ordered them.
I called 8-9 different place to be turned away. They only had m10 maximum. Then I found a nut and bolt specialty store. I got two m12's and an m16, like I was supposed to. But they are allot longer, not a big problem since I can just cut them down, I'm just happy to find them, they will be here in three days. They had to order them. But it was said that the m12's had to have a thread pitch of 1.25. But he has two sizes for these COARSE:1.75 and FINE:1.5. So I just got the 1.5's, I think I should be fine though...later

well, if the exhaust is leaking, find the leak and fix it. get under the car with it running and start looking for puffing out of any exhaust piping, joints, or pieces.

You could get lucky and just have a blown gasket.

Well I found out a few thing about the exhaust system lately. One, the gasket between the header and the down pipe is blown horrifically. The cat was all busted up, and how loud it is with only the header, heh.

I gutted the cat, everything inside was in pieces anyways, just had to cut it open, shake all the pieces out, and weld it shut.

I took the gasket after the header off, so no flames shoot out of it anymore.

And dam!! It's freaking loud with only a header on! Some kid packed car pulled up to me and revved at me, so I revved back as a joke. There eyes were pretty wide, heh. Then proceded to smoke them....

Put it all back together, and it sound allright, nice...

Now all I have to do is just put my new pluges in, and figure out how to get this new damed intake on. Just got the Bomz one from e-bay...later
