Unhappy Cherry Red Catylitic Help

OK just installed my new struts and took my car for a ride(it was flooded so i had to pull the fuse). It didn't seem to be running right so i pulled it back in the garage and looked around and did a few revs and it still didn't seem right(wouldnt rev past 6500). then out of nowhere i hear a loud hissing when i step on the gas. SO i looked under neath at the source and my cat converter was glowing cherry red. so i immediately shut the car off and it is currently cooling. What caused/could have caused this?

I would assume that the cat is clogged up. take it off and check it out.

that was my second thought lol. guess it is a good time to gut it as that was my plan. i just didnt think it would be as it came out of the blue. The car also sounds like it has a misfire. im going to pull the plugs tomorrow after school and check them out too.
