Chello! New 89 Vert Owner

Hey yall, just got me a super low mileage (65K) lady driven one owner red convertible. Mostly, it has been sitting in the garage all its life. I really enjoy it as a thoroughly modern car...I actually like it better than my 2003 G35 Infiniti.

I do have a problem though...when accelerating fully to redline; the rev band isn't really that smooth. Rather than a smooth "ZING!", it takes on a secondary vibration at 5 thousand and subsequently 6500 rpm that sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment on the passenger side. It isn't bad, just strange and unsettling...like something on the intake side needs cleaning or re-adjusting. Is this a common problem or something more complicated?

Thanks for any help!

Cool man, glad you enjoy all the fun that the rx has to offer! (although I hate to say I'd love to have a new G35, motor trend car of the year I do believe?) welcome!

VDI may be stuck

Don't forget to read the FAQ, it will have lots of info for the new owner

Thank you for your post, I took your advice...read everything I could on the subject. However, I'm still at a loss, could the valves sticking be causing a minute vibration? It does it when revving it to 6400 RPM in neutral too...

I have localized it somewhat, it almost sounds like it is coming from the air pump.

Again, thanks for your help.

VDI opens at about 5500rpm,

Do you feel that extra pull while accelerating when it seems to vibrate, or not?

No, and I should. But I think there are two problems, the back (firewall) VDI IS sticking...and the air pump is freaked. I got some work to do this weekend....

It really was lady driven, huh?

she probably never had it over 4000 rpms. So she was unaware there was a problem
