checking for spark??

my engine will roll over but won't start.its a s5 t2,with s5 n/a harness conversion.there is fuel, but i don't rear the pump coming on,but when you disconnect the line and turn the key on fuel is coming out.the line from the filter to the engine.so there is fuel, but seems to have no spark,is there a special way you check for spark on a rotary engine??because i tool the T1 wire off, stuck a crew driver in it,and grounded it to the engine block,no spark???

Got to keep the screwdriver away from the ground to see if the spark will jump. If you ground it directly, the spark will run through the screwdriver and into the ground and no spark will be seen. Yup, that's the way to check, same as piston engine, however I don't have an answer as to why no spark. Not an electronic guru.

Pull a leading plug wire, connect it to a plug and then lay it on the shock tower. Crank engine.

Just because the fuel pump is running doesn't mean there is fuel...the injectors may not be firing...check for fuel by pulling a plug and checking to see if it's wet. It's probably just flooded.

alright i'll pull the plug out and check for flooding, which is probably is.i'll ground the plug and wire to the shock tower too.i am getting fuel, just strange there is no sound from the pump with the key on?maybe its the crank angle sensor, you need a signal from this before you get fuel and spark.i don;t know.before i bought the car,and swapped the n/a for a t2 engine, the car didn't run either, the car had have the old engine apart,i asked why,he said he's not a mechanic, but just one day he went to start it,and it would roll, but just wouldn't start.same problem i'm having but this is a different engine and harness.

For the last time, probably, the fuel pump does not run just because the key is to ON.

The fuel pump runs if the key is HELD to START.

The fuel pump runs if the engine is running.

The fuel pump runs if the fuel pump check connector is jumpered and the key is to ON.

You need to do the last thing listed, then pull the return line off the engine where the fuel hoses attach to the engine hard lines. We suspect you have your Pressure and Retun lines on backwards at the engine. Hence no flow thru the fuel rails.

SPARK can be checked without running the battery down or wearing out the apex seals etc, by getting the spare CAS off you old engine and attaching its elect plug to the harness in the car. Key ON. Spin the spare CAS bottom gear while watching a sparkplug wire laying on the shockstrut tower. Spark should occur if the EGI and Engine fuses are good. OR instead of the sparkplug wire on the fender, just pull ONE of the LEAD coil wires just out of its bore. Say a 1/16-1/8" out of the bore. Spin the CAS in your hand. Large spark should occur.

yup you were right the lines were backwards, lol. the car starts now,and runs for a bit then stalls,i also have no downpipe on it,but there are a few vacuum lines off,so i'll figure those out,and should have it running tonight.
thanks for the help.
