checked codes 91 vert need help!!!

checked code...27 so it's omp or ecu i think. I'm following service manual steps to determine which one. I'm stuck on step #2. what is a stepping motor? where is it?
how is the ecu tested ? from the harness or the pins on the ecu? how do i get it out to test it? how do i test continunity between stepping motor and ecu???
wow this is a lot, i really need to get this thing rolling!
thanks for any and all help!

Just put your voltmeter on the omp wiring harness connector next to the alternator. Warm up the car and if it's out of resistance range, you need to replace the OMP. I think the "restistance test procedure" in the service manual is wrong, it seems like J1 to J3 had resistance, but not J2 to J1/J3.

Oh, and don't pay dealer or Mazdatrix prices on the e-OMP. Several places are rebuilding them now. That includes the OMP gasket but not the lines (which are usually ok). Also I just re-used the copper OMP line multi-crush washer/gasket.
