My father has 25+ years experience in the commercial HVAC industry. I remember him telling me that back in the 70's there was a company that made an air conidtioning compressor that was based on a wankel engine design. Same prinicpal as a supercharger just a different substance being compressed and for a different purpose.
I will ask him again to get more details but if I rembmer correctly from what he said before they were largely unpopular in the industry because of the quality of the prodution and they were hard to rebuild in the field.

Yep, we all are driving old technology. All engines are based on old pumping technology. I prefer the rotary over steam engines converted to run on gas
Sounds like an idea for a new 3-rotor. 2-rotor power with a singl- rotor belt driven supercharger.
