Finally pulled my filter off today to clean it, check out what came off of it just by tapping! That's not including what came off in the engine bay before I got the filter out.

So I did a search, and someone said you can clean a Bonez filter with K&N stuff, is that true? Anyone tried it? If not, how the heck should I clean it?

"The Bönez Air Intake kit replaces the restrictive stock air box with an unique K&N style cone filter which utilizes a funnel design to increase the surface area for better air flow than standard cone filters. These kits will give a noticeable performance increase that is nicely enhanced when using some form of performance exhaust system. The filter element can also be cleaned using standard K&N chemicals. The Street-Comp Kits utilize a special air pump filter."

Thanks much

And yes, the car still runs hehe. I had been taking it with me to work for the past little while, and some of the sites I've been working on haven't been landscaped, so lots O dust.

I knew it was dirty, but I had no idea how bad until I pulled it off. Definately not cool, gonna check it much more often now

I'm curious, once you remove the stock airbox , how much room do you have to work with when installing a cone filter? how big can it be in inches (length and width), let me know, thanks!

Garden hose, then the K&N oil stuff.

Then let it dry, and put it back on the car.

YReadman, Here's what mine looks like with a cone filter. I removed the stock airbox and connected the elbow (PVC drain pipe from the home store) to the air meter and put the cone filter on the other end. I used some strap material to make a support for the airflow meter.

Thanks for the picture, I was wondering does it matter how large the filter is? Larger the better or smaller the better? I know it sounds kinda dumb, just want to know

Also I'm having great difficulty in removing the stock air box, I see it's attached via screws marked "9" but they won;t budge at all, do I need to exert a great amount of force to remove these, ok thanks!

Size does matter! It has to be small enough to fit. The filter I have is about 6" from the small end to the fitting where it goes on the pipe. The large end diameter is about 6" and the small end is 4". The small end is "open". Think of a donut with filter material where the donut hole would be.

Also I'm having great difficulty in removing the stock air box, I see it's attached via screws marked "9" but they won;t budge at all, do I need to exert a great amount of force to remove these, ok thanks!
There should be two tabs with bolts that go thru "ears" on the airbox. It's possible these bolts have rusted in place. Try some penetrating oil or an impact wrench. After you remove these, there is a bracket that holds the air meter in place at the bottom of the airbox. Remove the bracket from the airbox and use it to mount the airflow meter to the support you build.
